HUMBERWOOD ACADEMY BIKE CAMP
2026 PARENT HANDBOOK
Welcome to the Humberwood Academy family! This handbook is designed to help you and your camper prepare for a safe, high-energy week of skill-building and adventure.
The Humberwood Difference
At Humberwood, our bike program is designed and overseen by Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT). We apply professional teaching strategies, such as the "Power of Yet", to ensure every child masters new skills in a structured, safe, and encouraging environment.
BIKE CAMP CHECKLIST: WHAT TO BRING
Please ensure all items are labeled with your child’s name.
A bike in working order: Please check tires and brakes before Monday morning.
Bikes will be transported to and from camp each day.
A CSA-approved bike helmet: Mandatory for all sessions.
Closed-toed shoes: Running or athletic shoes are required for safety; no sandals or flip-flops while riding.
A refillable water bottle: To stay hydrated during active outdoor sessions.
Weather-appropriate clothing: We ride rain or shine! Pack rain gear or sweaters as needed.
Sunscreen & Mosquito Repellent: Please apply before camp. Staff will assist with re-application for full-day campers.
Nut-free lunch and snacks: Pack slightly more than usual, as our active curriculum burns a lot of energy.
A small backpack: To keep all belongings organized throughout the day.
OUR CORE SKILL GROUPS
We group campers by ability to ensure every child is challenged and safe.
The Spin Squad (Balance & Basics): For first-timers mastering balance and steering.
The Pedal Pups (Transition): For riders ready to ditch training wheels and master the "Rocket Start."
The Gear Shifters (Skill & Safety): For independent riders mastering technical control, hand signals, and precision braking.
The Alpha Wolves (Elite/Distance): Advanced riders exploring diverse terrain and mastering gear transitions and endurance.
CAMP LOGISTICS

The Friday Finale: Every Friday, we host a "Pedal Graduation" and theme day where kids can show off their new skills to the coaches.
WEATHER & SAFETY POLICIES
Rain or Shine: Camp proceeds in light rain. In the event of extreme weather (lightning, poor air quality, or extreme heat), we move to off-bike indoor activities or sheltered areas until conditions improve.
Cancellations: If hazardous weather requires a program change, we will contact you via email or phone as early as possible.
Safety Ratios: We maintain a low teacher-to-camper ratio to ensure constant supervision and high-quality instruction.
